Target Information
Gene Symbol ARG1
Gene Full Name arginase 1
Gene Summary Arginase catalyzes the hydrolysis of arginine to ornithine and urea. At least two isoforms of mammalian arginase exist (types I and II) which differ in their tissue distribution, subcellular localization, immunologic crossreactivity and physiologic function. The type I isoform encoded by this gene, is a cytosolic enzyme and expressed predominantly in the liver as a component of the urea cycle. Inherited deficiency of this enzyme results in argininemia, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by hyperammonemia. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2011]
Molecular Weight(MW) 35 kDa
Function Arginase-1 (Arg1) is a 35 kDa enzyme converting L-arginine to urea and L-ornithine, which is the final step in the urea cycle. The resulting polyamines are important for cell proliferation and removal of toxins that arise from protein degradation. By degrading arginine, Arginase 1 deprives NO synthase of its substrate and down-regulates nitric oxide production. In both human and mouse, Arginase 1 is expressed in the liver, neutrophils, myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSC) and neural stem cells. In human, expression in blood neutrophils but not in CCR3+ granulocytes has been reported. In mice, expression of Arginase 1 is one of the hallmarks of alternatively activated macrophages (M2a). Arginase-1 may be expressed in the myeloid cells infiltrating tumors, and is typically found in the majority of hepatocellular carcinomas. Defects in Arginase 1 are the cause of argininemia, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by hyperammonemia.

Application

WB

Western blot analysis of ARG1 in mouse liver , rat liver lysates and using ARG1 Goat pAb.

IF

Immunofluorescence analysis of ARG1(Green) in mouse liver tissue using ARG1 Goat pAb, and DAPI(Blue)

IHC

Immunohistochemistry of Paraffin-embedded mouse testis tissue sections using the antibody ARG1 Goat pAb at a dilution of 1/50. Heat-induced epitope retrieval was performed using Tris-EDTA(pH9.0).
