| Product description | Rabbit polyclonal to MMP22Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development,reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMPs are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. The enzyme encoded by this gene lacks the signal sequence found in other MMPs, suggesting that it may function intracellularly. The substrate for the enzyme has not been identified, but it is thought that the protein may play a role in reproductive processes. This protein is encoded by the MMP22 or MMP23B gene which is part of a duplicated region of chromosome 1p36.3, which includes a second gene, MMP23A, which is almost identical. |
