Western blot analysis of Desmocollin 1 on different lysates with Rabbit anti-Desmocollin 1 antibody at 1/1000 dilution. Lane 1: C2C12 cell lysate, Lane 2: L6 cell lysate, Lane 3: RH-35 cell lysate, Lane 4: NIH/3T3 cell lysate, Lane 5: PC-12 cell lysate, Lysates/proteins at 20 µg/Lane. Exposure time: 2 minutes; 4-20% SDS-PAGE gel. Proteins were transferred to a PVDF membrane and blocked with 5% NFDM/TBST for 1 hour at room temperature. | Gene Summary | The protein encoded by this gene is a calcium-dependent glycoprotein that is a member of the desmocollin subfamily of the cadherin superfamily. These desmosomal family members, along with the desmogleins, are found primarily in epithelial cells where they constitute the adhesive proteins of the desmosome cell-cell junction and are required for cell adhesion and desmosome formation. A subtype of IgA pemphigus, a life-threatening autoimmune disease, is characterized by the presence of autoantibodies that target the encoded protein. The desmosomal family members are arranged in two clusters on chromosome 18. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants.
