Epitope tags are useful for the labeling and detection of proteins using immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, and immunostaining techniques. Because of their small size, they are unlikely to affect the tagged protein’s biochemical properties.
TdTomato is a fluorescent, photostable orange dye that was isolated from and further engineered from the Discosoma sea anemone . Reported to be six times brighter than EGFP, TdTomato is comprised of a tandem dimer of monomers engineered from DsRed; the dimers are held together by intramolecular bonds. For this reason, TdTomato is considered a monomer. Its peak fluorescent excitation is at 554 nm and emission is at 581 nm . |
