Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins, are a protective protein component secreted by effector lymphoid B cells in the immune system. Antibodies are generally composed of two light peptide chains and two heavy peptide chains linked by disulfide bonds, forming a Y-shaped structure. Each tip of the "Y" structure contains a specific binding site for the antigen, so each Ig monomer can bind to two antigen molecules.
