Product Profile
Product Name PKAα/β/γ cat Antibody (H-56)
Antibody Type Primary Antibodies
Antigen Alias epitope corresponding to amino acids 231-286 mapping near the C-terminus of PKAα catalytic subunit of human origin
Modification Notes The second messenger cyclic AMP (cAMP) mediates diverse cellular responses to external signals such as proliferation, ion transport, regulation of metabolism and gene transcription by activation of cAMP-dependent protein kinases (cAPKs or PKAs). Activation of PKAs occurs when cAMP binds to the two regulatory subunits of the tetrameric PKA holoenzyme, resulting in release of active catalytic subunits. Three catalytic subunits of the PKA holoenzyme exist and are designated PKAå cat, PKA∫ cat and PKA© cat, each of which represent specific gene products. PKAå cat and PKA∫ cat are closely related (93% amino acid sequence similarity), whereas PKA© cat displays 83% and 79% similarity to PKAå cat and PKA∫ cat, respectively. Activation of transcription upon elevation of cAMP levels results from translocation of PKA to the nucleus, where it phosphorylates CREB, leading to TFIIB-TBP1 binding and, ultimately, the linking of phospho-CREB to the Pol II transcription initiation complex.
