Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. The majority of zinc-finger proteins contain a Krüppel-type DNA binding domain and a KRAB domain, which is thought to interact with KAP1, thereby recruiting histone modifying proteins. As a member of the MYM gene family, ZNF237 (Zinc finger protein 237), also known as ZMYM5 (Zinc finger MYM-type protein 5) and ZNF198L1 (Zinc finger protein 198-like 1), is a 669 amino acid nuclear protein that contains four MYM-type zinc fingers. ZNF237 shares significant sequence similarity to ZNF198, a probable component of the BHC histone deacetylase complex. There are five isoforms of ZNF237 that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events. |
