epitope corresponding to amino acids 325-434 mapping near the C-terminus of cathepsin F of human origin
Modification Notes
The cathepsin family of proteolytic enzymes contains several diverse classes of proteases. The cysteine protease class comprises cathepsins B, L, H, K, S, and O (1,2). The aspartyl protease class is composed of cathepsins D, E and F (3-5). Cathepsin G is in the serine protease class (6). Most cathepsins are lysosomal and each is involved in cellular metabolism, participating in various events such as peptide biosynthesis and protein degradation (1). Cathepsin F is widely expressed in human tissues, but it is most highly expressed in heart, skeletal muscle, brain, testis, and ovary (5,7). Cathepsin F is thought to play a role in normal protein catabolism, and because it is highly expressed in some cancer cell lines, it may be involved in degradative processes occurring during tumor progression (7).
