Product Profile
Product Name γ-sarcoglycan Antibody (H-60)
Antibody Type Primary Antibodies
Antigen Alias epitope corresponding to amino acids 117-176 mapping within an extracellular domain of γ-sarcoglycan of human origin
Modification Notes The sarcoglycan transmembrane proteins are members of the dystrophin complex (1). Sarcoglycans cluster together to form a complex, which is localized in the cell membrane of skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle fibers (1). Four sarcoglycan subunit proteins, designated å-, ∫-, ©- and ∂-sarcoglycan, form a complex on the skeletal muscle cell surface membrane (2). A genetic defect in any one of these proteins causes the loss or marked decrease of the whole sarcoglycan complex, which is observed in the autosomal recessive muscular dystrophy, sarcoglycanopathy (2-6). In smooth muscle, ∫- and ∂-sarcoglycans are associated with é-sarcoglycan, a glycoprotein homologous to å-sarcoglycan (5). Additionally, a complete deficiency in ∂-sarcoglycan is the cause of the Syrian hamster BIO.14 cardiomyopathy (3).
