Alternative Names
MBD2 Methyl-CpG-binding domain protein 2 Demethylase Methyl-CpG-binding protein MBD2
Molecular Weight(MW)
43255 Da
Function
Binds CpG islands in promoters where the DNA is methylated at position 5 of cytosine within CpG dinucleotides Binds hemimethylated DNA as well. Recruits histone deacetylases and DNA methyltransferases. Acts as transcriptional repressor and plays a role in gene silencing. Functions as a scaffold protein, targeting GATAD2A and GATAD2B to chromatin to promote repression May enhance the activation of some unmethylated cAMP-responsive promoters
Tissue Specificity
Highly expressed in brain, heart, kidney, stomach, testis and placenta
Cellular Localization
Nucleus. Note=Nuclear, in discrete foci. Detected at replication foci in late S phase
The anti-MBD2 N-term Antibody is used in Western blot to detect MBD2 in A375 cell lysate (lane 1) and mouse brain tissue lysate (lane 2) lysate.

Storage Instructions
For short-term storage, store at 4° C. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20ºC or below. Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
Storage Buffer
Purified polyclonal antibody supplied in PBS with 0.09% (W/V) sodium azide. This antibody is purified through a protein G column, eluted with high and low pH buffers and neutralized immediately, followed by dialysis against PBS.
