Rabbit polyclonal to IKB alphaIKBa protein is a NF-kB inhibitory protein. It binds NF-kB, retains the complex in the cytoplasm, prevents it from entering nuclear and functioning as a transcription factor. Upon receiving a variety of signals, IKBa undergoes phosphorylation at serine residues by a ubiquitin-dependent protein kinases and finally degraded by the proteasome. Free NF-kB then binds to DNA and affects gene expression (ref 1,2). |
