CDK5, CDKN5, Cell division protein kinase 5, Crk6, Cyclin-dependent kinase 5, Protein kinase CDK5 splicing, PSSALRE, TPKII catalytic subunit
Product description
CDK5, a CDC2/CDK-type protein kinase, is associated with neuronal development. CDK5 is regulated by p35 (CDK5R1) and has been shown to phosphorylate high molecular weight neurofilaments (NEFH) and the microtubule-associated protein tau. CDK5 also associates with p25, a truncated form of p35, which accumulates in neurons in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. CDK5 (-/-) mice have unique lesions in the central nervous system that are correlated with perinatal mortality. Changes in CDK5 levels have been implicated in adaptive changes in the brain related to cocaine addiction. Recently CDK5 has been shown to affect the ischemic injury of CA1 pyramidal neurons through its modulation of NMDA receptors (Wang et al. 2003).
