TYK2, a TYK2/JAK type protein kinase, is associated with signal transduction via cytokine receptors and mediating the activation of STAT (signal transducers and activators of transcription) proteins. TYK2 has been shown to phosphorylate the interferon-alpha/beta receptor alpha chain and to be a physiological substrate of protein tyrosine phosphatase PTP1B.
