Gene Full Name neurofilament heavy chain
Gene Summary Neurofilaments are type IV intermediate filament heteropolymers composed of light, medium, and heavy chains. Neurofilaments comprise the axoskeleton and functionally maintain neuronal caliber. They may also play a role in intracellular transport to axons and dendrites. This gene encodes the heavy neurofilament protein. This protein is commonly used as a biomarker of neuronal damage and susceptibility to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) has been associated with mutations in this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]
Alternative Names Neurofilament heavy polypeptide (NF-H) (200 kDa neurofilament protein) (Neurofilament triplet H protein)
Molecular Weight(MW) 200-220kDa
Cellular Localization Cell projection,Cytoplasm,Cytoskeleton,Intermediate filament.
Application

WB

Western blot analysis of MBP and NFH protein expression in cerebral cortex normalized with GAPDH. Both showed a significant decrease in mTrappc9 m/m mice.

ICC/IF

Cortical neuron from a neo-natal mouse brain culture immunocytochemically stained for NF-H immunoreactivity (1:5000 dilution). Secondary antibody (fluorescein-labeled goat anti-chicken IgY, (1:1000 dilution).
Application Notes WB:1:5000-1:10000
IHC:1:2000-1:5000
ICC/IF:1:2000-1:5000
Additional Information
Form Liquid
Storage Instructions Store at 4°C in the dark. Under these conditions, the antibodies should have a shelf life of at least twelve months, provided they remain sterile. For longer term storage, aliquot and freeze to avoid freeze-thaw of the antibody.
Storage Buffer Phosphate-buffered (10 mM) isotonic (0.9%, w/v) saline ("PBS" pH 7.2) with bovine serum albumin (BSA, 0.5%) added to prevent absorption to the plastic and sodium azide (0.02%, w/v) added as a preservative.
