Mouse monoclonal [Col-1] to Carcino Embryonic Antigen CEA, predilutedCarcino Embryonic Antigen (CEA) is synthesised during development in the fetal gut, and is re expressed in increased amounts in intestinal carcinomas and several other tumors. Antibodies to CEA are useful in identifying the origin of various metastatic adenocarcinomas and in distinguishing pulmonary adenocarcinomas (60 to 70% are CEA+) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA+).
Immunogen
BALB/C mice were injected with extract of colon carcinoma cells.

Tissue Specificity
This antibody reacts with a highly glycosylated protein of MW 180 kD, synthesized during development in the fetal gut and several tumors. It does not react with normal colon antigen (NCA). It stains the cell surface and cytoplasm of malignant glands in colorectal adenocarcinomas.
Cellular Localization
Attached to the membrane by a GPI-anchor.
