Detection of endogenous EGFR. Whole cell lysates of serum starved tumor cells (20,000 cells per lane) were applied to SDS-PAGE and transferred to a PVDF membrane. The blot was probed with 0.5 μg/mL for 1 hour at RT and developed by ECL (exp. time: 30 sec). This protein is a receptor for members of the epidermal growth factor family. EGFR is a cell surface protein that binds to epidermal growth factor. Binding of the protein to a ligand induces receptor dimerization and tyrosine autophosphorylation and leads to cell proliferation. Mutations in this gene are associated with lung cancer.
